DIVERSE MINDS YOUTH WRITING SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST: B'nai B'rith International is hosting a scholarship
contest for high school students called the Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge. The contest asks
students to create an original children's book that tells a story of diversity or tolerance. The deadline
for submissions is March 1. More information is available at

BAHAMIAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE ESSAY COMPETITION: The Leadership with the members of the Bahamian American Culture Society, Inc.
(BACS) wishes to connect with students of Bahamian-American heritage, grades 5-10, in the metropolitan
and Tri-State areas. These students are invited to participate in a competitive essay contest on "My
Bahamian-American Heritage". Competition will run during the month of February, and essays must be postmarked

THE RANDOM HOUSE, INC. CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION: Open to all New York City public high school
seniors. All submissions are judged solely on creative expression--there is no entrance fee
or grade point average required. Although the deadline has passed for literature entries, the application

2008 YOUNG NATIVE WRITERS ESSAY CONTEST: "This writing contest is designed to inspire
Native American high school students to research and elaborate on historic or contemporary
issues affecting their community. It offers all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C.,

JEWISH HERITAGE WRITING CONTEST: In honor of Jewish Heritage-NY 2008 and the annual observance of Jewish
Heritage Week (May 4-11), the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, in cooperation with the
DOE, is sponsoring the Toby Nussbaum Jewish Heritage-NY Writing Contest for New York City public school
students. This year's theme is "Rachmanut: Expressing the Jewish Value of Compassion." Students are
asked to write a short essay or poem on the concept of compassion and an obligation to society. The contest
is open to students in grades 4-12. There will be winners of cash prizes at each school level.
